In a bid to curb the menace of terrorism and kidnapping in Nigeria, the Federal Government has come up with tight measures in the manner with which sim cards are bought and registered by customers in the country.
National Identity Number is Nigeria’s equivalent of what American’s call a Social Security Number and it seems compulsory for every citizen to have one.
Every sim card will be registered using a NIN to help identify true customers and curb crime in the region as is common practice in most civilized countries.
Recall that the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) had earlier issued a two-week ultimatum to telecommunication operators to block all SIM cards that are not registered with the National Identity Numbers; although there is an intervention by the senate to extend it.
It is still not clear as at the time of writing this article how many sim cards and individual may posses but registration is a must.
In this post we have outlined practical ways of retrieving and linking your National Identification Number (NIN) via the USSD code on the major network operators or through other online platforms.
